Keeping track of the bits and bytes
We are all about efficiency at Floodlight. To help increase all of our productivity we use an array of systems/services to help manage our projects. Read about some of them below.
Code Library: We use an internal library of code that we consult when tackling any project. From twitter feeds, to custom admin components we have built up quite a repository. We are always improving this code-base and use it as a framework for our sites. This benefits all our clients by allowing us to quickly and efficiently implement commonly used functionality pieces.
Project Management: To manage our projects we work with 37 Signals product Basecamp. Basecamp does a great job at providing a single place for our whole team to access information. We manage our timelines, changes, and design files through the system. Its a tool that we couldn't live without and really helps keep us organized.
Invoicing: We use Billings to keep track of our client invoicing. Its an invaluable tool and makes invoicing quite a streamlined process. You can setup custom templates for your business and get reports on a bunch of various metrics.
Marketing: We've been using a Google Docs spreadsheet up to this point, but are starting to out grow this simple method. Looking into Highrise (another 37 Signals product), but most CRMs seem far from the perfect solution.
Email / Calendar: We've been using Google Apps for a few years now and are very happy with the results. GMail as an email service can't be beat as far as reliability, spam filtering, and speed. Using the business edition you can setup your custom domain as the default login as well as brand the webmail to your organization.
The only failed system is a non-existant one. Setup a system(s) that work for your firm and stick with them for a while before making adjustments.
